Inaugural Hwa Chong Community Gathering Hosted by the SCHS Board of Directors – Uniting the Hwa Chong Community Through Stronger Connections

On 31 July 2026, the SCHS Board of Directors (“SCHS BOD”) hosted the inaugural annual Hwa Chong Community Gathering, aimed at fostering communication and connection among the various entities of the broader Hwa Chong community.

This was enthusiastically supported, and a total of 87 representatives and members from the different Hwa Chong entities came together that evening for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner, to strengthen bonds and nurture friendship.

Registration started that evening at 6.30pm. Mr Lee Kian Soon, Honorary Secretary of the SCHS BOD, and Madam Yeo Jing Ping, Director of the SCHS BOD, were the emcees for the evening. At their invitation, Mr Chua Kee Thiam, Director of the SCHS BOD, and Mr Chew Phak Heng, General Affairs Secretary of Hwa Chong Seniors Club (“HCSC”) and Council Member of Hwa Chong Alumni Association (“HCAA”), took the stage together to perform the classic song “朋友”. Their melodious performance marked the opening of the evening’s programme and showcased too the spirit of cherishing friendships and journeying forward together as one Hwa Chong Family.

Following the performance, all guests stood to sing the Hwa Chong School Anthem. The resounding voices of all presents reflected their deep sense of belonging and connection to their alma mater, creating a solemn and heartwarming moment.

Dr Sia Nam Chie, Chairman of the SCHS BOD, then delivered his welcome speech, expressing his heartfelt appreciation for the enthusiastic attendance of representatives from the various entities. He hoped that the gathering would provide an opportunity for everyone to interact, strengthen friendships, and enjoy a pleasant evening together in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

During the dinner, a fun Kahoot quiz segment was specially arranged. Guests were invited by the emcees to scan and participate in the quiz using their mobile phones. The atmosphere was lively as participants enthusiastically answered the questions, with laughter filling the venue and adding a delightful touch to the evening. At the end of the quiz, Dr Sia Nam Chie, Chairman of the SCHS BOD, personally presented small tokens of appreciation to the top three winners, adding a moment of joy and surprise to the gathering.

Towards the end of the dinner, Mr Chia Ek Koon Thomas, Director of the SCHS BOD, shared his reflections and experiences from the SCHS BOD’s recent team-bonding and overseas exchange trip to Xiamen. He then invited all guests to stand and sing along to the song “Man Jiang Hong” (《满江红》). The resounding voices and spirited atmosphere brought the dinner to a memorable climax, cementing the emotional connections among old boys and girls.

Representatives from the respective Hwa Chong entities were also invited to make closing remarks, and they shared their thoughts, expressed appreciation for the invitation, and extended their best wishes to everyone, adding a warm and meaningful touch to the evening.

Amidst laughter, heartfelt conversations, and warm exchanges, the annual Hwa Chong Big Family Gathering concluded successfully. The gathering not only strengthened the ties and friendships among the various entities but also reinforced the spirit of unity within the Hwa Chong Family. The SCHS BOD looks forward to continuing its collaboration with all entities, upholding the Hwa Chong spirit and moving forward together towards a brighter future.
